General Information
The Vermont Jazz Center has established a proven program of jazz education which emphasizes ensemble coaching as well as individual instruction. Our faculty-student ratio is kept very small to maximize opportunities for personal growth.
Overall enrollment is limited to 60 students. Students of this program are usually at an intermediate to advanced level. Many are working musicians who want some time and guidance to focus on their craft. Ages range from mature high school students to mature adults.
- Workshop Students
-
Summer program participants have come from throughout the continental U.S., as well as Germany, France, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, and the Philippines.
Enrollees include talented high school and college students considering a career in music, as well as working professionals of all ages wishing to refine instrumental and improvisational skills. Several have returned season after season.
Daytime Activities
- Classes in Theory/Improvisation, Style Analysis, Composition
- Instrumental Master Classes & Individual Instruction

*The three options for Jazz Theory include:
- Basic Theory delves into key signatures, reading simple chords and understanding the relationship between chords and scales.
- Intermediate Theory investigates chord extensions, modes of the major scales and alternate scale choices for more advanced chords.
- Jazz Arranging will be offered in place of Advanced Theory as a means for more experienced participants to apply current theoretical concepts in the writing process.
Come join us for a great week in the country. . . .
The setting is terrific, the music inspiring!
