Gerald Clayton Trio

Clayton is a 2010 Downbeat Critic's Poll Rising Star, a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and second place winner in the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition. This exciting, hard-swinging, 26 year-old pianist can now be found with the Henry Mancini Orchestra, the Clayton Brothers Trio (featuring his father, bassist, John Clayton), the Lewis Nash Quintet, Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove and many others. However, Gerald's secret weapon is the dedication to his own trio music and the longevity of his trio.

Despite their youth, this group (Gerald on piano, Joe Sanders, bass and Justin Brown, drums) has performed together for many years. In the promo for their acclaimed new release "Two Shades," they stress the honesty and depth that evolves from incessant touring and group interaction All About Jazz states that Gerald Clayton "embodies the...technique of Oscar Peterson, the rhythmic and melodic inventiveness of Monty Alexander, the compositional approach of Billy Childs, and the solid left hand underpinning of his father John - the results are not only stunning but fresh, original and distinctly the music of today."
