Miguel Zenón Quartet

So many awards and accolades have been heaped on alto saxophonist Miguel Zenon in his brief-but-storied career, it's difficult to keep up--MacArthur Fellow, Guggenheim Fellow, multiple Grammy Award nominee, Jazz Times Magazine Best New Artist of the Year, four times top Rising Star in the Downbeat Critic's Poll. One thing is certain: Zenon creates a riveting musical texture with his melding of jazz and plena--a musical tradition of Puerto Rico, his home--his rhythmic innovation and the pure, graceful sound he commands from his axe.

It's no wonder Zenon has played with so many jazz greats, including David Sanchez, Charlie Haden, Bobby Hutcherson, The Mingus Big Band and many others. Zenon's latest album, Esta Plena, his fifth as a leader, received two Grammy nominations and numerous other honors.

Howard Reich, The Chicago Tribune, writes: "As Zenon's songs unfold, audiences hear an ebb and flow of ideas between cultures, as if Caribbean music and its jazz offshoots were conversing."
