Solo Jazz Piano Festival featuring Joanne Brackeen

In Collaboration with the Brattleboro Music Center and the American Piano Association
Other pianists TBA

Our third annual solo jazz piano festival celebrates the VJC's 9' Steinway concert grand piano, a gift from the Mckenzie Family Charitable Trust. This festival honors the piano's immense contribution in jazz by presenting leading and upcoming musicians who have devoted their lives to mastering the instrument's creative potential and stylistic legacies. This year's headliner is NEA Jazz Master Joanne Brackeen, who is one of the most decorated pianists in the jazz tradition. With over 20 albums as a leader, Brackeen is also a veteran of the bands of Art Blakey, Sonny Stitt, Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson Joe Farrell, Freddie Hubbard, Toots Thielemans and Stan Getz, to name a few.

This year the VJC will be collaborating with the American Piano Association for the first time to present formally a laureate of the APA's Cole Porter Jazz Fellowship Award.

Concerts will be held at the Vermont Jazz Center on Friday and Saturday nights. Masterclasses, concerts of regional artists and panels will be held at the Brattleboro Music Center.
